China to continue to provide Sri Lanka school uniform material

He said this while exchanging the 2026 provision certificates with Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.
The PM and ambassador exchanged certificates confirming that 11.484 million metres of cloth donated by China had been fully distributed to meet the country’s total school uniform requirement for 2026.
Ambassador Qi Zhenhong said that the school uniform donation programme has been carried out continuously over the past four years. He said China will continue to support Sri Lanka’s education sector through initiatives such as digital infrastructure development and scholarship programmes, reflecting the friendship between the two countries.
PM Amarasuriya acknowledged that China has consistently supported Sri Lanka’s efforts in education transformation, as well as the country’s economic and social development.
She said school uniforms were more than a basic necessity but play a role in promoting dignity and equality among students. The uniform material distribution programme helps reduce disparities and enables children to pursue their education with confidence, she said.
She thanked the Chinese Ambassador and embassy officials, and Education Ministry staff for ensuring the implementation of the programme.
The programme has benefited more than 4.4 million students in government and government-approved schools, including student monks, nuns, and lay students of piriven. (DWI)
