New Dean at Kelaniya Social Sciences Faculty
View(s):Professor Chaminda Abeysinghe assumed duties as the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Kelaniya this week.
Professor Abeysinghe is the first dean elected from the Department of International Studies, marking a milestone for both the department and the faculty. He brings expertise as a scholar in Asian politics, international relations, and geopolitics, with research interests in decentralisation, local governance, Sino-Indian relations, and Indian Ocean geopolitics.
As professor and head of the Department of International Studies, he was pivotal in strengthening academic programmes and promoting research culture.
He also served as a professor at Meiji University, Tokyo, Japan, which broadened his academic exposure and collaborative research efforts. He has delivered lectures on security studies at the National Defence College and the National Police Training Centre. He has shaped national development by serving as a board member of the National Youth Corps and the National Enterprise Development Authority (NEDA).
