The International Institute of Health Sciences (IIHS) has entered into a strategic partnership with the National Savings Bank (NSB) to enhance access to globally recognised healthcare education for Sri Lankan students. The collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), under which NSB will provide accessible student loan facilities to support students enrolling in IIHS programmes. Leveraging its extensive island-wide network of branches, NSB aims to make education financing more readily available to students from diverse geographical and socio-economic backgrounds. The initiative covers a wide range of healthcare degree programmes offered by IIHS, including Nursing, Physiotherapy, Biomedical Sciences, Sports and Exercise Science, Nutrition, and International Foundation Programmes. Many of these programmes lead to internationally recognised qualifications, enabling students to pursue global career opportunities while studying locally.

Speaking on the partnership, the Acting General Manager of NSB, Ms. Devika Silva, highlighted the bank’s commitment to national development through investment in education and human capital. “As Sri Lanka’s national savings bank, we view education financing as a vital investment in the country’s future. This collaboration with IIHS allows us to support aspiring healthcare professionals across the island while contributing to national progress. We also look forward to expanding similar partnerships that empower youth and strengthen the nation’s knowledge economy,” she stated. Dr. Kithsiri Edirisinghe, Chief Executive Officer of IIHS, emphasised the broader social impact of the initiative, particularly in promoting equitable access to education. “Access to quality education should not be limited by geography or financial barriers. Through the support of NSB, we are able to open doors for talented youth from rural and suburban communities to obtain high-quality global healthcare qualifications while studying in Sri Lanka,” he said. The partnership is expected to play a significant role in reducing foreign exchange expenditure associated with overseas education, while simultaneously strengthening Sri Lanka’s position as a regional hub for healthcare education. Furthermore, it contributes to the development of a globally competent healthcare workforce, aligning with the country’s long-term economic and social development goals.
