Orientation Programme for 2026 Intake Held at Institute of Chemistry Ceylon – Malabe Campus

The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon successfully conducted the Orientation Programme for the new intake on 25th January 2026 at its Malabe Campus. The event marked the official welcome of newly enrolled students who will commence their academic journey in the BSc Hons (Chemical Science) degree and Graduateship in Chemistry (GIC) programmes.
The programme was organised to familiarise students with the academic structure, institutional facilities, and the professional standards upheld by the Institute. A large number of students and parents participated in the event, reflecting the growing interest and confidence in the Institute’s chemistry education programmes.The ceremony was graced by Senior Prof. K.L. Wasantha Kumara, Vice-Chairman of University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka, as the Chief Guest. In his inspiring address, Prof. Wasantha Kumara emphasised the broad career prospects offered by a chemistry degree and shared practical insights on how to succeed with a background in chemical sciences, encouraging students to strive for both academic and personal excellence.
The event began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Chandani Perera, Dean of the College of Chemical Sciences, who expressed her enthusiasm for the new students joining the Institute and highlighted the academic culture that fosters both critical thinking and scientific innovation.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Hema Pathirna, President of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon, who underscored the significance of chemistry education in national development and the Institute’s role in producing competent scientists and professionals.
An overview of the academic programmes, including BSc Hons and GIC, was presented by Dr. Kushan Weerasiri, Enrolment Coordinator, who provided students and parents with valuable information on curriculum design and the academic journey ahead.The ceremony came to a close with concluding remarks by Dr. Weerasiri, who thanked the staff, students, parents, and dignitaries for their presence and contributions, while extending his best wishes to the newly enrolled students.
