Little Friends of Lyceum International School, Nugegoda – 61st Sri Jayawardenepura recently took part in a timely environmental awareness session focusing on the importance of protecting the ozone layer, a topic of growing global relevance amid ongoing climate and environmental challenges.
The session served as a meaningful reinforcement of students’ existing environmental studies, highlighting the critical role the ozone layer plays in shielding the Earth from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation. Through age-appropriate explanations, students were reminded of the wider health and environmental implications of ozone depletion, including its impact on human health, ecosystems, agriculture, and climate patterns. The discussion also touched on how certain human activities and chemical emissions continue to pose risks to this vital protective layer.
The programme was delivered through an engaging video presentation at the Lyceum campus, ensuring the subject was both accessible and engaging for young learners. Under the guidance of the School Principal, Dr. Ms. Kumari Grero, students were encouraged to reflect on their role as future custodians of the environment and to adopt responsible, eco-conscious habits in their daily lives.
