Visakha Vidyalaya clinched a triple crown while Ananda College ‘A’ pocketed a double at the Janaka Bogollagama memorial Cool Tennis All-Island Inter-School Kid’s Play Day 2025 held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association courts in Greenpath last week.

Visakha Vidyalaya conquered the entire competition for girl’s, claiming all three events – the Green Ball, Orange Ball and Red Ball – while Ananda College ‘A’ claimed their double crown by dominating the Green Ball and Orange Ball events, at the annual play day event organised and conducted by Sri Lanka Tennis Association from January 7 to 11.

The triple champions, Visakha, defeated Kalutara Balika Vidyalaya in the Girl’s Green Ball final, as Ladies’ College finished at third, followed by Musaeus College ‘Gold’ in the category. Visakha Vidyalaya doubled their stronghold by overcoming St. John’s Girls’ School, Panadura in the Girl’s Orange Ball final, in which Visakha Vidyalaya ‘Yellow’ finished at third, ahead of Ladies’ College, who settled in at fourth. Visakha completed their triple crown by unsettling Musaeus College ‘Gold’ in the Girl’s Red Ball final, as Maliyadeva Girls’ School completed at third, followed by Buddhist Ladies’ College at fourth.

Ananda College ‘A’ claimed their double crown with a dominating performance that put them ahead of other top contenders, who are known for their rich backgrounds in tennis. Ananda ‘A’ beat St. Peter’s College ‘Blue’ to annex the Boy’s Green Ball title, while Richmond College ‘Gold’ settled in at third, followed by St. Joseph’s College, Negombo at fourth.

In the Boy’s Orange Ball, Ananda ‘A’ outsmarted Richmond College ‘Red’ to emerge winners as Nalanda College ‘Silver Force’ settled in at third ahead of Richmond College ‘Blue’, who finished at fourth. The Boy’s Red Ball title was claimed by St. Peter’s College ‘Blue’, who overcame Royal College ‘Blue’ in the final, as Sumedha College, Gampaha ‘Diamond’ finished at third, followed by Jaffna Hindu Primary School at fourth.

The annual event, sponsored by Janaka Bogollagama and Co., with YETI coming in as co-sponsors, attracted 215 teams and more than 1,100 young tennis players from schools across all parts of the country. Known as the haven for budding tennis players of the country, the five-day event was conducted under three categories – Red Ball, Orange Ball and Green Ball – as a dedicated platform to nurture young talent and promoting sportsmanship among school-level athletes across the island.
