Cabinet approves signing of MoUs between state and foreign universities
View(s):The cabinet has approved entering into memoranda of understanding between Sri Lanka universities and foreign universities for a period of five (5) years.
This was to create educational cooperation with foreign universities to raise the status of Lankan universities in world rankings and internationalisation.
Accordingly, signing a MoU between Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and Mahamakut Buddhist University in Thailand for academic and research cooperation with the objective of enhancing educational and cultural activities between faculties and students, conducting collaborative research, academic research, and conferences was approved.
Apart from that, signing an MoU between the Bhiksu University of Sri Lanka and the Nalanda Institute in Jakarta, Indonesia was approved, with the objective of enhancing educational cooperation in education, research, and community service; obtaining the expertise of educational experts and lecturers; developing human resources and curriculum through the utilisation of resources such as laboratories and libraries; and for internship training, including training programmes and academic seminars.
The MoU between the University of Colombo and the SGH Warsaw School of Economics in Poland too was approved by the cabinet, with the objective of conducting collaborative research and launching publications in mutually agreed fields, conducting collaborative seminars and workshops, exchanging academic staff and students, and exchanging academic information and materials.
