Reaffirming its continued excellence and commitment to nurturing future-ready accounting and business professionals, the SAB Campus of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) held its 9th Annual Convocation on 12 December 2025 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.

The convocation marked a significant milestone for the campus, recording the highest number of graduates to be conferred at a single ceremony. A total of 315 graduates were awarded the Bachelor of Science in Applied Accounting while the graduation of 17 students marked the inaugural graduation of the CA Master of Business Administration programme, reflecting the growing academic strength and industry relevance of the campus’s offerings.

The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Mr. Nalinde Jayasekara, Head of Finance, Strategy, Digital, and Logistics at MAS Capital (Intimates) Private Limited. Also in attendance were Mr. Heshana Kuruppu, President of CA Sri Lanka; Mr. Tishan Subasinghe, Vice President; Members of the Council; Ms. Lakmali Priyangika, Chief Executive Officer of CA Sri Lanka; and Emeritus Professor Ariyarathna Jayamaha, Director of the SAB Campus.

Extending his congratulations to the graduates, Mr. Jayasekara noted that this year’s convocation took place against the backdrop of significant adversity, as Sri Lanka’s recent weather-related challenges have underscored the vulnerability of communities and the increasing unpredictability of global climate patterns. “As finance professionals, you now carry the responsibility of championing resilient, ethical and sustainable practices that support national recovery and long-term stability. Your role extends well beyond numbers and contributes directly to societal trust and national progress,” he said.

Addressing the graduates, Mr. Kuruppu emphasised that their journey at the SAB Campus had been more than the attainment of a recognised qualification. “It has been a purposeful transformation, preparing you to move from learners to leaders, ready to build a stronger and more resilient future,” he stated. He also encouraged graduates to pursue the Chartered Accountant qualification of CA Sri Lanka, describing it as a contemporary and distinguished professional qualification that has, for over 65 years, been recognised as a true differentiator in the professional world.

In his speech, Mr Subasinghe reflected on the growth of the Applied Accounting degree since its launch in 2013, when the programme commenced with just 18 students. “Today, that vision has flourished, with over 2,000 students currently following our Applied Accounting and Business Analytics degree programmes at the campus,” he said.

He urged graduates to carry forward not only their qualifications but also the ability to think critically, adapt to change, and work effectively with both technology and people to create value.

During the convocation, awards were presented to recognise outstanding academic performance of the students. Emeritus Professor M.W. Wickramarachchi Award for Best Overall Performer was awarded to Sara Mariyam Mohomed Shifa. The CA Sri Lanka President’s Award for Best Overall Performance in Academic Studies (BSc. Applied Accounting – Special Degree) was jointly awarded to Jayani Seuwandhi Naomi De Mel and Sathiyakumar Lukshitha. The CA Sri Lanka Vice President’s Award for Best Overall Performance in Academic Studies (BSc. Applied Accounting – General Degree) was awarded to Nichelle Shanon Perera, while the Award for Best Performance in Academic Studies – Master of Business Administration 2025 was presented to Loganadhan Kokila.
