According to the 2025 Education Ministry progress report the research and development branch had obtained special achievements.

One such achievement was the student research day programme for 2025, which was held on June 20, at Eheliyagoda Central College, with the participation of 600 students and 50 teachers.

Another was issuing a circular on September 4, including a compilation of instructions regarding the school research week.

Apart from that, a research advisory committee was established with the aim of obtaining strategic guidance and expert knowledge on educational research for the Ministry of Education, Higher education, and Vocational Education.

Initial steps were taken to conduct research studies on topics such as a detailed study to investigate the imbalances in financial physical resources among schools in Sri Lanka, and a qualitative study on student dropouts from school.

12 research studies were approved after reviewing the research proposals and questionnaires related to research studies conducted by local/foreign undergraduate/postgraduate students based in schools, confirming their suitability for implementation within the school system.

Approval was obtained to publish an action research journal named “Inquire and Inspire” to promote findings of action research within the general education system.

Steps were taken to conduct a course to improve the academic writing practices of research involved in educational research at the National Institute of Business Management.

Another achievement was the promotional programme implemented to establish and popularise a research culture within the general education system. (KW)
