Anti-ragging task force meets university students
View(s):The National Task Force to Prevent All Forms of Violence, including ragging, in universities, has held a meeting with student representatives of all state universities.
Members of the task force had invited student representatives for a meeting to obtain their views and suggestions on efforts to eradicate ragging from universities, Deputy Minister of Education Madhura Senevirathna said. He added that during the discussion, student representatives also agreed to assist government efforts to stamp out ragging within the university system.
The meeting was held as part of the wider programme to draw up a National Education Policy.
Those present at the meeting included Deputy Minister Senevirathna, members of the task force, senior officials from the University Grants Commission and student representatives.
Meanwhile, a committee appointed as part of drug eradication efforts under the ‘Ratama Ekata,’ national anti-narcotics programme also met the student representatives and discussed the problem of illegal drug use among students on campuses. Committee members also briefed the students on what they can do to prevent such incidents and help their fellow students.
The deputy minister added that action plans were drawn up concerning both issues.
