Programme to promote psychological well-being among disaster-affected families held in Gampola
View(s):A mental health awareness and relief programme was held this week at the Ranasingharama Temple in Panwilathenna, Gampola, with emphasis on children affected by the recent floods and landslides.
The programme was organised under the leadership of social activist Dileepa Samarakoon, with the support of humanitarian groups from Mahara and Kadawatha.
The initiative focused on promoting psychological well-being among disaster-affected families, with attention given to children, while also providing much-needed relief assistance.
Artistes Mihira Sirithilaka, Ferni Roshani, Chinthaka Peiris and Voshika Perera added vibrancy to the event through musical, dance and theatrical performances. Coordination of the artistes was undertaken by social activist Chamara Wijesuriya.
Professional counsellors conducted a series of child-focused activities aimed at addressing trauma and improving the mental health of children affected by the disaster. In preparation for the upcoming school term, volunteer barbers also provided free haircuts to children. The programme was attended by the Kandy District Secretary, the Gampola Divisional Secretary, other government officials, officers from the Gampola Youth Services Council, and members of youth clubs affiliated with the National Youth Services Council.
Dry rations, hygiene products, school supplies and other essential items were also distributed.
