Temple, church launch joint flood relief effort
View(s):A Buddhist temple and a church in Mabima near Sapugaskanda launched a joint effort to help flood victims of the area this week.
Supported by the Kelaniya Rotaract Club and patrons of the temple, the Sri Shalitharama Purana Viharaya at Walahena in Mabima and the nearby St Joachim’s Church distributed essential items, dry rations and cleaning equipment to 150 families affected by floods.
The temple’s chief incumbent, Venerable Gonahene Rewatha Thero, said he and Rev. Fr Malan Mendis joined the efforts to provide cooked meals to about 6000 flood-affected people.
Also joining in the relief work were members of the Kelaniya Rotaract Club, the patrons of the temple, donors, and Buddhist and Pali University students, including foreign monks.
