Four new PCs take oaths- with electronic signatures

Hiranjan Peiris
For the first time in the country’s history, four newly appointed President’s Counsels have taken oaths in the Supreme Court without the use of pen and paper, after placing their signatures electronically before a full bench presided over by Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena.
The newly sworn in President’s Counsels are four Additional Solicitor Generals (ASGs) of the Attorney General’s Department – Hiranjan Peiris, Azard Navavi, Lakmali Karunanayake and Sudarshana De Silva.
ASG Hiranjan Peiris was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 1992 and joined the AG’s Department as a State Counsel in February 1995. He was promoted as ASG in July 2024. He is a former student of Royal College, Colombo.
Azard Navavi
ASG Azard Navavi graduated from Sri Lanka Law College with First Class Honours in 1997. He joined the AG’s Department as a State Counsel in 1998. He has 27 years’ service with the AG’s Department and was the lead prosecutor in many high-profile criminal cases. He is a former student of Trinity College, Kandy.
ASG Lakmali Karunanayake was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in 1997 and joined the AG’s Department as a State Counsel in 1998. She has led the prosecution in many high-profile criminal cases. She is a former student of St. Bridget’s Convent, Colombo.
ASG Sudarshana De Silva had his education at Dharmapala Vidyalaya, Arawwala and Royal College, Colombo. He was enrolled as an Attorney-at-Law in December 1996 and joined the AG’s Department in 1998. He was promoted as ASG in May 2025.
