Paddy farmers of the Namal Oya scheme in Digamadulla have voiced concern over the government’s failure to provide the fertiliser subsidy at the right time.
They said it has been a month since the decision was taken to issue the fertiliser subsidy, but authorities have failed to issue the stocks so far.
The farmers said the usual practice was for the fertiliser subsidy to be issued after the paddy was cultivated, but with the change of government they expected a change.
However, W. Dias Wijesinghe, Secretary of the Namal Oya scheme said about 4,000 acres have been cultivated in the area and this time too already 10 to 12 days had passed after the paddy was cultivated, but they are yet to receive the subsidy.
