The captive lioness deprived of its mother’s affection has found maternal felicity with three cubs of her own.
The Hambantota Ridiyagama Safari Park’s well known lioness Dora was rejected by its mother Lara from birth, so that zookeepers had to intervene and hand-raise the delicate cub.
However, under the care of the zoo workers the cub thrived and reached adulthood and has now given birth to three cubs of her own. Dora, unlike her own mother, is a doting matriarch, and is taking care of the little ones along with her mate Wolly the lion.
The authorities of the Safari Park added that they are planning to exhibit the one-and-a-half-month-old cubs to the public in December.
