The boat used to transport ‘Ice’ in the Kirinda drug detection case was apprehended at the Tangalle harbour yesterday evening by the Police Narcotics Unit, leading to the arrest of five more suspects.

The five suspects and the seized boat will be produced in the Tissamaharama Court tomorrow.

According to Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) Director Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) H.M.C.P. Herath, police can hold an individual
for only 24 hours for questioning before being produced in court but the Narcotics Act allows for this detention period to be extended to seven days for investigation purposes.

The original detection was made on November 11, in a combined operation by police exposing another maritime drug trafficking racket in Kirinda.
