Colombo High Court Judge Mohamed Mihal has ordered former minister and National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa to inform the court before December 1 which of the documents presented by the prosecution he intends to accept.
In this case, filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), Mr Weerawansa is accused of acquiring assets worth nearly Rs. 75 million in excess of his lawful income.
The prosecution this week handed over 72 proposed admissions related to the case to the defence. Additional Solicitor General Azard Navavi said the prosecution had handed over all documents to the defence.
Mr Weerawansa’s counsel, Anura Meddegoda, PC, said the defence would study the documents and inform the court as to which of the documents the defence was willing to accept.
The court accordingly fixed the trial for December 18.
The CIABOC’s Assistant Director General Disna Gurusinghe, with Assistant Director Ishani Rajapaksha, appeared for the Commission.
