SJB’s Vithana gets two armed police officers

Two armed police officers were provided to Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Jagath Vithana yesterday following reports that his life was under threat.
The MP said that although a letter had been issued by the IGP dated October 11, 2025 that he faced death threats, he was made aware of it only after some police officers had called over at his house to inquire into the matter and his family members alerted him.
“It was only after I made inquiries from a police officer was I told that my name was among the list of people who faced death threats,” he said.
Mr Vithana pointed out that as he is a
representative of the people he could be targeted by rivals, and therefore security should be given to him.
He said that he had written to the Speaker
on Friday informing him that he requires security and if the government fails to do so to provide
him a suitable firearm for self-defense as soon
as possible.
