No suspects have yet been identified in the killing of Lasantha Wickramasekara, Chairman of the Weligama Pradeshiya Sabha, Police said yesterday.
However, according to intelligence reports received so far, police stated yesterday that they have been able to trace the area through which the killers travelled and the direction they came from.
They expressed confidence that within 48 hours, they would be able to obtain more information. The incident has also raised serious concerns over public security in Sri Lanka.
Police Media Spokesman F. U. Wootler said that the police would be able to obtain vital information soon.
“Acting on the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southern Province) Kithsiri Jayalath, four special investigation teams were assigned specific tasks, utilising advanced tools such as CCTV footage, video recordings, and telephone analysis.
“We are hopeful that these methods will yield clues soon,” he said, urging the public to remain patient as investigations continue.
