Colombo High Court Judge Mohammed Mihail has fixed the hearing of the case against former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake and Arjun Aloysius over the purchase of an apartment for November 28.
They were indicted by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC).
The accused had argued that a cabinet minister could not be prosecuted under the Bribery Act due to conflicting definitions in the constitution. The High Court rejected this objection, and Mr Karunanayake sought to appeal.
Preliminary objections to the case were filed in the Supreme Court but were rejected.
The case is over a Rs 11.6 million payment made by a company owned by Mr Aloysius for the apartment.
Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara sought an early date for the hearing of the case.
The court has issued summons on six persons, including two directors of the company that sold the apartment—Anika Wijesuriya and Vijith Wijesuriya. Also summoned is the Parliament Secretary General.
Along with Deputy Solicitor General Janaka Bandara, State Counsel Oswald Perera and Sajith Bandara appeared for the prosecution, while Assistant Director General of the Bribery Commission Dishna Gurusinha and Chathumi Jayatillake appeared for the CIABOC.
Razik Zarook PC and Rienzie Arsecularatne PC appeared for the accused.
