AG to discuss X-Press Pearl compensation dispute with President
View(s):By Ranjith Padmasiri
Attorney General Parinda Ranasinghe (Jnr) has sought an appointment with President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to discuss issues arising from the X-Press Pearl ship company’s refusal to pay the compensation payment ordered by the Supreme Court.
The appointment has been sought after the Singapore-headquartered shipping company declared that it would not pay the compensation ordered by the court, amounting to US$1 billion for causing the worst marine environmental pollution in Sri Lanka’s history. All AG department officials involved in the prosecution of the case will take part in the discussion.
