Historic Achievement: St. John Paul II English Medium College, Wennappuwa Secures 1st Place at All Island Schools Music Competition 2025

St. John Paul II English Medium College, in the Wennappuwa Education Division of the Chilaw Education Region, made history by securing 1st place at the All Island level for the first time in the school’s history. The achievement came in the Instrumental Solo (Special) – Blowing Instrument (Saxophone Solo) Category of the All Island Schools Music Competition, under the International/Private Schools category, organised by the Aesthetic Branch of the Ministry of Education, this year

This is an incredible achievement, as it was the first time in the history of St. John Paul II English Medium College that the school participated in the All Island Schools Music Competition and was able to secure 1st place. This is considered historic milestone in the journey of the school.
Western Music Teacher, Mrs. Dinithi Nissanke
Grade 11 student from the St. John Paul II English Medium College, Nethmi Meleesha secured 1st in the Zonal Level (Chilaw), Provincial Level (North Western) and National Level Competitions in the Instrumental Solo (Special) – Blowing Instrument (Saxophone Solo) Category. For this, Sanahasa Imandiv, Romain Vibodha, Kane Fernando, Shenol Fernando and Sadew Chamodh the accompanied students, were helped through performance.
This accomplishment was made possible by the enthusiasm and talent of the students, combined with the dedicated training and guidance of their Western Music teacher, Mrs. Dinithi Nissanka, Coach Mr. Suneth Jayasanka and the motivation and encouragement provided by the school Principal, Rev.Fr.Susiri Shantha Jayakody.
