AOD Graduate Jonathan Joseph Redefines Sri Lankan Brands for the Global Stage
Sri Lanka’s design talent is making its mark internationally, with AOD graduates at the forefront. Among them is Jonathan Joseph, whose career illustrates how AOD’s distinctive approach to education empowers students to think commercially, design strategically, and thrive globally. Jonathan began his journey with the AOD Foundation, which laid the groundwork for his creative career, and went on to complete his BA (Hons) Graphics & Visual Communication Design, awarded by Northumbria University UK.
Jonathan runs his own design studio specialising in brand identity and packaging. In just a few years, he has worked with over 100 clients across FMCG, beverages, hospitality, fashion, and lifestyle. His practice is now evolving into Brandkind, a multidisciplinary agency with ambitions to serve global markets in branding, packaging, 3D, and digital design.
Shaping Sri Lanka’s Brand Landscape
Jonathan’s portfolio includes projects that are instantly recognisable to
Sri Lankan audiences, from well-loved FMCG products to leading tea brands. His rebranding of the national energy drink RIDE gave it a fresh identity to compete with global competitors, just one example of how his designs go beyond visuals to drive relevance and connection.
In the tea industry, Jonathan has contributed to over 11 brands, including Tea Avenue, Hyson Tea, and Tea Tang, creating packaging systems that honour Sri Lanka’s heritage while appealing to export markets. A highlight is Cassandra Organics, designed for Dubai supermarkets with a vibrant packaging identity that blends Sri Lanka’s colours with international retail sensibilities.
These projects show how AOD graduates like Jonathan bring together cultural authenticity and global appeal, helping
Sri Lankan products travel across borders.
Reaching International Platforms
Beyond local icons, Jonathan has collaborated with global giants such as Google, Visa, Prudential, and Workday, extending his practice into corporate and digital design systems. His work demonstrates the versatility AOD instils in its graduates, the ability to adapt to different industries, cultures, and scales of design.
He has also represented Sri Lanka at Young Spikes Asia, a platform that showcases the region’s best young creative talent, further affirming how AOD prepares designers to compete at international levels.
How AOD Shaped the Journey
Jonathan’s achievements reflect AOD’s philosophy of blending creativity with entrepreneurship. Having completed the Foundation programme at AOD and his BA (Hons) Graphics & Visual Communication Design from Northumbria University, UK through AOD, he gained both academic knowledge and practical skills. Exposure to real clients and mentorship gave him the confidence to launch his studio and shaped the collaborative approach he applies with clients and creative teams today.
“AOD allowed me to embrace independence, creativity, and confidence to build my practice the way I envisioned it. The exposure to real-world projects and mentorship gave me the courage to launch my studio right after graduation.”

This foundation has been crucial in his transition from a young graduate to the founder of Brandkind, a studio with global ambitions.
Living Proof of AOD’s Impact
Jonathan’s journey demonstrates how AOD nurtures talent into tangible success. Its unique approach combining hands-on learning, mentorship, and entrepreneurial training gave him the skills and confidence to launch his own studio and take on projects with both Sri Lankan and international brands.
Through AOD, Jonathan learned to approach design not just as creativity, but as a strategic tool for business and cultural impact. His career shows that graduates are prepared to create opportunities, lead projects, and compete globally, translating their ideas into work that resonates across markets.
For aspiring designers, Jonathan’s story highlights that an AOD education is more than a degree; it is a platform that equips students with the mindset, experience, and networks to turn passion into careers that have real-world impact.
