Energy Minister’s case 49th on CIABOC’s list of 69

The decision by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to file action against Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody following corruption complaints over misappropriation of funds while serving at the Fertiliser Corporation in 2015 is on track, a senior official said.
He said that action is being taken to process the file in accordance to the order they have been received.
The Sunday Times learns that following the decision taken to file action against the Minister, the file had been sent to the Director General of the CIABOC Ranga Dissanayake who has referred it to the legal division for necessary action.
So far the Commission has directed to file action in relation of 69 cases which has been sent to the legal division. Minister Jayakody’s file has been listed as No. 49 while indictments related to 25 cases have already been completed.
.The action is to be filed in the High Court against the minister and two others over charges of misappropriation of Rs 8 million.
Mr Jayakody had served as the head of the tender board that awarded a particular tender that came under scrutiny.
Investigations into the tender began after concerns emerged over payment procedures and the placement of the bond.
The Bribery Commission had resumed investigations, considering the previous investigations about the misappropriation.
