White Coat Ceremony 2025: Sri Lankan Medical Students Begin Their Journey at VSMU

IMC Education, Sri Lanka’s premier medical education placement provider, hosted the White Coat Ceremony 2025 at the Lotus Hall, BMICH, in honour of students departing to Vitebsk State Medical University (VSMU), Belarus, for the September 2025 intake. The event was a symbolic and emotional send-off for future doctors as they embark on their journey toward becoming globally qualified medical professionals.
The ceremony was graced by Chief Guest, Dr. Priyanjan Nishantha Undugoda, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, UK; Examiner for the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK; and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Hull York Medical School. Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Nishantha inspired students with an insightful message on the profound responsibility and privilege of healing others, emphasising the importance of resilience, empathy, and lifelong learning in the field of medicine.
Also, in attendance as Guest of Honour was Dr. Dulani Ranatunga, Senior Consultant in Oncology at Queens Centre, Castle Hill Hospital, UK; Medical Oncology Training Lead at Hull University Teaching Hospitals; and Member of the NICE Expert Panel on Advanced Uveal Melanoma. Her presence added prestige to the ceremony and reflected the global excellence that VSMU graduates can aspire to achieve.
As part of the ceremony, students received their custom IMC-branded white coats and a Netter’s Human Anatomy Atlas – 8th Edition. A touching moment unfolded when parents were invited to assist their children in donning their coats, underscoring the deep family support behind each student’s journey.
