The University of Waikato, one of New Zealand’s leading universities ranked among the world’s top 300 in the QS World University Rankings 2026, will be hosting the Waikato Roadshow, offering students the opportunity to meet academic heads from the university on Tuesday, 23 September 2025, from 2.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m at the Taj Samudra Hotel, Colombo. This free-entry event provides a unique chance for students and parents to explore programme options, discuss scholarships, and receive personalised guidance on studying at one of New Zealand’s premier institutions.

Founded in 1964, the University of Waikato has grown from just over 100 students to more than 13,000 students annually from New Zealand and around the world. The University offers a wide range of programmes across its faculties and schools, including Arts, Computing and Mathematical Sciences, Education, Engineering, Health, Law, Psychological and Social Sciences, Science, and the Waikato Management School. While popular courses include Engineering, Law, Business, Computer Science, Environmental Science, and Social Sciences, the University of Waikato College provides foundation, bridging, and English language programmes to support international students in their academic journey toward undergraduate and postgraduate studies.

The University of Waikato has two main campuses. The Hamilton campus, their largest offers a vibrant student atmosphere, modern learning facilities, on-campus accommodation, and a range of cafes, providing a dynamic environment for both academic and social life. The Tauranga campus, located in the heart of the city’s CBD, complements the Hamilton campus by combining high-quality qualifications with beautiful beaches, a relaxed lifestyle, and world-class university study opportunities.

International recognition is a key strength of the University of Waikato. Waikato Management School holds Triple Crown accreditation (AACSB, EQUIS, AMBA), placing it among the elite 1% of business schools worldwide. Engineering programmes are fully accredited by Engineering New Zealand, and the School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences is a proud member of the international iSchools network. The University is also ranked in the top 350 globally for 11 subject areas, including Accounting & Finance, Law, Education, Psychology, and Agriculture & Forestry.

Students benefit from practical, applied learning, strong industry links, and globally recognised qualifications. Career Development Services prepare graduates for successful careers, while postgraduate students may access partner work visas and free education for their children. PhD candidates pay domestic tuition fees of approximately NZD 8,000 per year, and scholarships are available to support high-achieving students. International students report high levels of satisfaction, with 90% indicating they are satisfied or very satisfied with their experience at the University of Waikato.

Students also have the opportunity to benefit from scholarships of up to NZD 15,000, including the Vice-Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship for outstanding undergraduate and postgraduate students. These scholarships provide significant financial support and are automatically awarded upon meeting eligibility, helping to make study in New Zealand more accessible for high-achieving students.

Work Integrated Learning (WIL), a compulsory component of all undergraduate degrees, bridges classroom theory with real-world experience through supervised work placements or industry-related projects. WIL ensures that students gain practical skills, industry exposure, and hands-on experience in their chosen fields, equipping them for smooth transition into professional careers.

The University of Waikato also offers a wide range of support services to international students, ensuring a smooth academic journey. This includes academic advice, career counselling and assistance with accommodation, along with opportunities to participate in student clubs and societies to enhance social integration. By combining quality teaching with practical experience and strong community support, the University prepares students to achieve their academic and career goals while enjoying life in New Zealand.

The Waikato Road Show will feature informative sessions and one-on-one consultations with University of Waikato academic staff, giving Sri Lankan students valuable insights into academic programmes, scholarships, campus life, and career pathways in New Zealand. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet the academic staff directly, ask personalised questions, and receive guidance on choosing the programme that best aligns with their interests and career goals. The event also provides a platform to explore study pathways, understand scholarship opportunities, and gain detailed information about postgraduate benefits, and the comprehensive student support services available at the University.

Students who wish to attend are encouraged to register through Rivil International Education Consultants, the official representative for the University of Waikato in Sri Lanka.
