The 100th Year Celebration of Quantum Sciences & Technology – STEM Conference for A/L Students concluded successfully on 11th September 2025 at the BMICH, marking a historic milestone in inspiring Sri Lanka’s next generation of young scientists and engineers.

The event was jointly organised by the Future Lanka Research and Development Foundation (FLRDF) and the Faculty of Engineering, University of Sri Jayewardenepura. It brought together over 350 Advanced Level Mathematics and Biology stream students from more than 40 schools in the Western Province, along with their teachers, principals, and industry leaders.

The programme began with a welcome note by Mr. Dian Baduge, Director of the Future Lanka Research & Development Foundation, followed by the keynote address delivered by Dr. Ruchira N. Wijesena, Senior Lecturer at the University of Moratuwa and Group Leader at the Sri Lanka Institute of Nanotechnology. A thought-provoking panel discussion featuring distinguished experts—Prof. S. R. D. Rosa, Council Member, Sri Lanka Technology Campus; Prof. Charitha Jayaruk, Associate Professor, Faculty of Humanities & Sciences, Department of Applied Sciences, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology; Dr. Prasenna Balachandran, Vice Chairman, ACCA Sri Lanka Member Network Panel; and Mr. Keerthi Kodithuwakku, Chairman/CEO of Jendo Innovations—explored the future of engineering, life sciences, and employability in the quantum era. The closing wrap-up was delivered by Dr. Charithri Yapa, Senior Lecturer, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

In addition, the conference launched the “Most Innovative Science Society 2025” competition, giving school science societies the opportunity to showcase their creativity and vision. Students also had the chance to explore an Exhibition Zone with the active participation of many prestigious universities across the nation, creating meaningful engagement between higher education institutions and future undergraduates.

The conference was recognised as one of the largest STEM-focused school events in 2025, successfully combining knowledge-sharing, inspiration, and career guidance for Sri Lankan youth in a rapidly changing global landscape.
