Man killed in bus accident caused by driver falling asleep

A 74-year-old man was killed and 56 others injured in a bus accident caused by the driver falling asleep while driving in Pottuvil yesterday.
The bus toppled into a culvert near the Komari Hospital in Pottuvil yesterday afternoon, police said.
The group had been returning to Arugam Bay after attending a shramadana programme at the Dighavapi Raja Maha Vihara in Ampara, having travelled from Welimada.
Police said the accident occurred around 3.30 p.m.
The injured were admitted to hospital, and the Pottuvil Police is conducting further investigations.
