Justice Gamini Amarasekara new chairman of Sri Lanka Law Commission

Retired Supreme Court Justice Gamini Amarasekara has been appointed as the new chairman of the Law Commission of Sri Lanka. Eleven other eminent professionals in the legal field have been appointed as members of the commission. The appointments have been made by Justice Minister Harshana Nanayakkara.
The newly appointed members of the Law Commission are retired Court of Appeal Judge Dr Ruwan Fernando, former Additional Solicitors General and President’s Counsels Indika Demuni De Silva, Farzana Jameel, Neil Unamboowe, former Legal Draftsman and President’s Counsel Aruna Shantha De Silva, former Secretary of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Dr Sunil Abeyratne, President’s Counsel Harsha Fernando, former Principal of Sri Lanka Law College and President’s Counsel Indira Samarasinghe, President’s Counsel Viran Corea, Senior Attorney-at-Law Riad Ameen and Professor Wasantha Seneviratne of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo.
The newly appointed chairman and members of the commission were presented their appointment letters this week at the Justice Ministry. Justice Ministry Secretary Ayesha Jinasena, PC, was also in attendance.
