Lyceum International Schools’ teams claimed top three positions at the 50th annual Sri Lanka Schools Swimming Championship held from June 17 to 22, following an exceptional display of talent, teamwork, and endurance. Among all competitors, it was Lyceum International School, Wattala that made the biggest splash, securing the first position in the Overall Team rankings with an astounding 518.5 points, solidifying their dominance in school-level aquatic sports.

This remarkable achievement is a testament to the school’s dedication to sporting excellence, continuous investment in coaching, and unwavering support from parents, staff, and the student body. Lyceum Wattala’s swimmers showcased not only individual brilliance but also impeccable team coordination, propelling them far ahead of other top contenders.

Adding to the Lyceum glory, other branches also made impressive strides. Lyceum Gampaha secured second place with 311.5 points, while Lyceum Nugegoda followed at third place with 197 points. Lyceum Panadura finished at fifth overall with 150 points, as Lyceum Ratnapura finished ninth with 73 points.

The Girls’ team displayed exceptional coordination and skill to finish as first runners-up with 280 points, while the Boys’ team earned a commendable second runners-up position with 238.5 points.

One of the most memorable moments was the outstanding performance by K.G. Rusiru de Silva from Lyceum Wattala in the Under-20 Boys Individual Age Group category. He secured two gold medals and set new meet records in both events. His achievement of 2:17.99 minutes in the Boy’s 200m Backstroke event, set up a new meet record, after a long wait of 11 years. Rusiru also clocked 27.60 seconds in the Boy’s 50m Backstroke event to renew the meet record after 15 years.

Together, these performances highlight the consistency and depth of the Lyceum Group’s swimming programmes across its network of schools. Their collective presence in the top ranks reflects a unified commitment to nurturing athletic prowess and building a legacy in competitive swimming.

As Lyceum Wattala celebrates this outstanding victory at the golden jubilee edition of the national championship, it stands not only as a champion but as a beacon of excellence, inspiring young swimmers across Sri Lanka to dream bigger and dive deeper.
