Gateway emerge U-15 basketball champions

Gateway College, Colombo delivered a stellar performance at the TISSL Under-15 Basketball Tournament 2025, clinching the Boys’ Championship in commanding fashion. Hosted by Gateway Colombo itself, the tournament brought together the finest young talent from international schools across Sri Lanka, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, competition, and camaraderie.

From the outset, the Gateway Colombo boys showcased their skill, strategy, and teamwork. In the group stage, they comfortably defeated Lyceum International School, Wattala, with a score of 45-18, and then powered past Colombo International School, Kandy, in a commanding 68-11 victory.

The momentum continued into the knockout rounds. In the quarter-finals, Gateway Colombo triumphed over Lyceum International School, Panadura 64-25, followed by an impressive semi-final win against Wycherley International School, Colombo, with a dominant score of 71-33.

The grand finale saw Gateway Colombo face a strong Lyceum International School, Nugegoda team. In a closely contested and high-energy match, Gateway Colombo emerged victorious 67-55, sealing their place as undisputed champions of the tournament.

The team’s achievements were further recognised through individual accolades. Julan Senmitha of Gateway Colombo was named Best Defensive Player, while the Most Valuable Player award went to Ashane Thvarapperuma, whose leadership and game intelligence were instrumental throughout the tournament. Yoshitha Wathtuhewa from Lyceum, Nugegoda was recognised as the Best Offensive Player.

The tournament also celebrated the exceptional performances of other schools and players. In the Girls’ Division, Lyceum International School, Nugegoda emerged champions, while Lyceum International School, Wattala finished as runners-up. The Girls’ second runners-up title went to Lyceum International School, Panadura. In the Boys’ Division, Lyceum International School, Nugegoda secured the runners-up position, and Wycherley International School, Colombo, claimed the second runners-up spot.
