Russian Ambassador speaks at Pera Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series
View(s):The 12th session of the Peradeniya University Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series was conducted in the Senate Room of the university last week.
The speaker for the event was Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Sri Lanka Levan Dzhagaryan.
The ambassador delivered a speech on ‘Russia-Sri Lanka Relations: Strengthening Educational and Cultural Collaboration’ highlighting the longstanding bilateral cooperation between our two nations.
From being one of the top importers of Ceylon tea, Russia has also assisted in the establishment of the sugar factory in Sri Lanka, supporting Sri Lanka during the economic crisis as well as during Covid-19 pandemic providing the necessary vaccines.
Many Lankan students are studying for their medical degrees in Russia, while a large number of Russian tourists visit Sri Lanka every year.
The ambassador briefed about the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and praised the Sri Lanka government’s neutral stance on the conflict and appreciated US President Donald Trump’s efforts to settle it.
The audience included the Vice Chancellor, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Press-Secretary and Second Secretary of the Russian Embassy German Fedorov, the Deans of the Faculties, as well as academic, and non-academic staff.
The Vice Chancellor’s Lecture Series aims to provide the university community with an opportunity to engage with and learn from eminent speakers and professionals in their respective fields of expertise. It serves as a platform for intellectual enrichment, fostering a vibrant exchange of ideas and knowledge within the academic community.
