Helena Wijewardene BMV attend student parliament
View(s):The inaugural session of the Student Parliament of Helena Wijewardene Balika Maha Vidyalaya was held at the Old Parliament Chamber of the Presidential Secretariat recently. Students learnt how parliament functions, its traditions and responsibilities.
This programme was held under the patronage of the Chief of Staff and Acting Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne and was conducted as part of the ongoing Student Parliament Programme.
Addressing the members of the Student Parliament, Mr Kularatne explained the traditions, functions, and procedures of parliament. Media Advisor to the President Chandana Suriyabandara said that schools play a vital role in fostering a respectful society. He noted that such an environment nurtures individuals who are both strong and creative in their attitudes.
Following the inaugural session, the newly elected Speaker and members of the Student Parliament were officially sworn in. Mr Kularatne and invited guests presented certificates to the members of the Student Parliament.
