Sri Lanka and Bangladesh discuss ICT collaboration
View(s):Sri Lanka High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dharmapala Weerakkody has held discussions with the Chairman of the Associate Committee and the committee members of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), Rafel Kabir, on enhancing collaboration in the ICT sector between the two countries for mutual benefit.
The discussions were held last Sunday at the BASIS office in Dhaka.
Sri Lanka’s High Commission was accompanied by Minister Counsellor/Commerce Srimali Jayarathne.
During the discussion, High Commissioner Weerakkody provided an overview of Sri Lanka’s current IT industry status and capacity, along with the government’s vision for promoting it as a key export- oriented service industry.
He highlighted the promising investment opportunities in Sri Lanka’s IT sector and incentives available for foreign investors. Furthermore, the High Commissioner also proposed potential avenues for collaboration between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, particularly in the areas of software development, business process outsourcing (BPO), knowledge sharing, capacity building, and joint ventures.
He also extended an invitation to BASIS to participate in ‘Disrupt Asia 2025’, the premier ICT event organised by the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of Sri Lanka, scheduled to be held in Colombo in September 2025, along with the interested stakeholders in the Bangladesh IT industry.
In response, the BASIS Chairman and committee members expressed their interest in connecting with their counterparts in Sri Lanka to explore opportunities for joint collaboration in the IT field and to engage in interactive discussions, the Foreign Ministry said.
The BASIS Committee members expressed their willingness to connect with Sri Lankan IT companies visiting Bangladesh in pursuit of collaboration opportunities.
