View(s):The CfPS Law School celebrated the graduation ceremony of its University of London Laws Programme at the BMICH. Recognised as a leading teaching institution of the University of London, CfPS Law School marked this momentous occasion by awarding Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degrees and Certificates of Higher Education in Common Law to its graduands and diplomates.
The ceremonial conferrals were conducted by Ms. Patricia Mckellar, Dean of Undergraduate Laws at the University of London. She was joined by Ms. Sera Henderson, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Laws, who also contributed her presence to the event. CfPS Law School benefits from the academic support of the University of London’s Laws Consortium, which comprises six globally renowned colleges: University College London (UCL), the London School of Economics (LSE), King’s College London, Queen Mary, SOAS University of London, and Birkbeck University of London.
The event welcomed distinguished dignitaries, including Honourable Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, President’s Counsel and Judge of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka, who served as the Chief Guest. Mr. Prasantha Lal De Alwis, President’s Counsel and Principal of Sri Lanka Law College, graced the occasion as Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees from CfPS Law School included Mr. Saliya Pieris, President’s Counsel and Chairman, Mr. Sapumal Bandara and Mrs. Manouri Pieris, Joint Managing Directors, and Mr. Yohan Pieris, Chief Executive Officer. Senior management and members of the academic faculty were also present, demonstrating their commitment to fostering excellence in legal education.
Justice Kodagoda, in his address, commended CfPS Law School for its reputation as a foremost provider of students to the Sri Lanka Law College. He praised the institution’s dedication to serving the nation by offering free and discounted legal education to underprivileged students. Justice Kodagoda emphasised the unique opportunities available to graduates, encouraging them to explore diverse career paths beyond litigation. He suggested fields such as entrepreneurship, business management, diplomacy, and politics as viable alternatives for law graduates.
In her address, Ms. Patricia Mckellar reflected on the contributions of families, teachers, and friends in shaping the futures of young Lawyers. She expressed the importance of recognising their dedication and encouragement. Ms. Mckellar highlighted the comprehensive range of skills acquired by graduates, including critical thinking, adaptability, leadership, teamwork, communication, research, and digital literacy. She motivated graduates to remain curious, passionate, and responsive, urging them to realise their potential on local, national, and international stages.
Mr. Saliya Pieris spoke about the pillars of success: hard work, diligence, and dedication. He remarked that law serves as a powerful instrument for change and reform and reminded graduates to build trust and confidence among colleagues, superiors, subordinates, and clients as they step into the legal profession.
The ceremony recognised academic excellence, awarding medals to eight high-achieving graduates who demonstrated exceptional performance during their studies. Certificates were presented to students who earned distinctions in subjects such as Public Law, Contract Law, Administrative Law, European Union Law, Jurisprudence and Legal Theory, and Introduction to Islamic Law. The valedictory address for the graduating class of 2025 was delivered by Ms. Fathima Fiyaza Inas.

CfPS Law School’s vibrant student community plays a central role in shaping the educational experience. The Student Council, elected annually, organises popular events such as sports competitions, talent shows, Fresher’s Night, year-end dances, and quiz competitions. These activities foster camaraderie, creativity, and leadership among students, providing a well-rounded experience.
Enrollment at CfPS Law School takes place in March and September each year. Students enrolling in March benefit from introductory modules designed to strengthen essential skills, including research, reading, writing, and rationalising information. These skills are critical for successfully navigating the rigorous study of law. The next intake is scheduled for July/August 2025, offering aspiring law students the opportunity to embark on a fulfilling educational journey.
