Female judges and lawyers can now come to court in skirts and trousers

Female judges and lawyers will be permitted to wear skirts and blouses or trousers to court in the future.

The new dress attire has been put in place with the amendments to the Supreme Court rules gazetted this week.

Accordingly, black trousers with a white blouse and black coat and shoes or a black skirt with a white blouse and black coat and shoes.

So far only saree and jacket in white, black, off-white, grey, or mauve have been permitted. According to the new dress attire, the length of the trouser should be long up to the ankle while the length of the skirt should be below the knee when seated. The shirt or blouse should be high-necked and long-sleeved.

The dress code for male judges and lawyers remains unchanged.
