The funeral of veteran musician and Chancellor of the University of Visual and Performing Arts, Emeritus Professor Sanath Nandasiri took place yesterday (April 1) at the General Cemetery in Borella.

The remains were first taken to the University of Visual and Performing Arts last morning from his residence at Embuldeniya, where students and staff paid their last respects.

Later on, the remains were placed at the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) where he had honed his creative music skills. Artists, his contemporaries and the public were able to pay their final respects before being taken from there to the cemetery for cremation.

Sangeeth Nipun Sanath Nandasiri was the third Chancellor of the University of the Visual and Performing Arts, and as a veteran musician had served as a Head of Department of the Institute of Aesthetic Studies, and as the first Dean of the Faculty of Music of the University of Visual and Performing Arts.

He was conferred an honorary professorship as a tribute to his outstanding contribution to the field of music in the
