EDEX Expo 2023 Concludes On A High Note, With Record Crowds In Both Colombo & Kandy!
View(s):The EDEX Expo, held for the 19th time, from the 24th to the 26th of February at the Sri Lanka Exhibition and Convention Centre (SLECC) in Colombo and on the 5th and 6th of March at the Kandy City Centre (KCC) in Kandy, saw record crowds flocking to both events, with the general public clearly seeing this as a dire need, particularly with the country just recovering from a pandemic and reeling under an economic crisis.
The EDEX Expo, which began simply as a higher education exhibition for the students of Royal College, who’s alumni are the organisers of the event, grew and evolved to fill a major gap where the youth of this country had no single platform to gain awareness of the vast options and opportunities available to them, when selecting courses of higher studies and choosing a career, upon completing their secondary education. Not only did the EDEX Expo fill this gap, but grew from strength to strength, becoming the leading higher education and careers expo in the country. A record-breaking crowd of over 7,000 in Colombo and another 2,000+ in Kandy, clearly established this position beyond any doubt.
The EDEX Expo 2023 included a total of 12 international and 139 local higher education institutes, with over 15 corporates occupying the Job Fair. The Foreign Pavilions included leading higher education institutes from Australia, France, UAE, Japan, Nepal, Pakistan and India. The EDEX Entrepreneur section was taken up by Hatch and YouLead. As always, the EDEX Expo was endorsed by the Ministries of Education, Environment, Labour & Foreign Employment, Sports & Youth Affairs and the Prime Minister’s Office. It also had the EFC – Employers’ Federation of Ceylon, the CCC – Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the ILO – International Labour Organisation and the CCGA – Ceylon Career Guidance Association, as its strategic partners.

Many of the visitors to the EDEX Expo 2023, both in Colombo and Kandy, commented that they were satisfied with their visit, with several claiming that they found more than what they expected there. Some of the other ‘specialty’ areas of the EDEX Expo, like the EDEX Job Fair, saw the participation of several leading corporates, providing not just job opportunities in their organizations but also career insights for the youth, while the EDEX Careers section had all its seminars filled to capacity (with some even ‘overflowing’), and the Career Guidance section which conducts Psychometric Testing (an exclusive feature of the EDEX Expo), was filled to capacity, with a queue waiting to go next. Taking all of this into consideration, EDEX is privileged to maintain its position as being a step ahead in fulfilling the educational and career planning needs of the youth of this country.
