The humid weather experienced during the past few weeks has come to an end and the pre-south west monsoon period has begun, the Met. Department said yesterday.

Department Duty Meteorologist Meryll Mendis said heavy showers accompanied by high winds are expected at the end of this week.
He added that people should beware of thunder and lighting and take precautions to minimise any damage caused.

The Central, Sabaragamuwa, Uva and North Central provinces will be most affected by the rainy weather while the coastal areas of the Western and Southern Provinces will experience rains in the early hours of the day as well.
