Over ten thousand swimmers are expected to participate in the beginners swimming course, which is currently in progress in Galle, under the supervision of Technical Advisor Julian Bolling.

Swimmers training at the Dadella pool in Galle

This course will be conducted over three months and ten students from each school in the Galle District are eligible to participate in this programme. A total of 24 schools have been identified for this event.

This swimming course will be conducted by three recognized coaches in the country from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. for students from grade one to 10 and once again from 4.00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. for the seniors.

A fee of Rs. 300 will be charged monthly from seniors for the maintenance of the pool while the course for the juniors will be free of charge.

The organizers expect to train over 1500 swimmers for a year and the main goal of this programme is to provide basic lessons in swimming, to popularize the sport among schools and to help students cope with natural disasters.

The main sponsors for this event are the Jet Wings (Light House), SOS Welson Netherland and Adopt Sri Lanka.
