Colts and Army secured their second successive outright win of the SLC Premier League Cricket Tournament beating Lankan CC and Panadura SC respectively with a day to spare yesterday. Colts outclassed Lankan CC by ten wickets at their home ground while Army travelled to overcome Panadura SC by 52 runs.

Sachith Pathirana (L) and Angelo Jayasinghe (R) shared a partnership of 163 runs for the second wicket to help Chilaw Marians score 256 vs NCC who declared at 405-6. - Pix by Amila Gamage

The foundation for Colts’ win was laid by skipper and left arm spinner Sajeewa Weerakoon who with a five wicket haul helped his side to restrict their opponents to 163. Later Malinda Warnapura made a knock of 95 enabling Colts in their turn to end with a score of 263.

Right arm pacie Ishan Jayaratne carried on the good work when he wrecked the Lankan CC in their second innings with impressive figures of 7 for 37 to bundle them out for 119. This left Colts a simple run chase of 20 runs which they overtook in six overs.
In a low scoring game of fluctuating fortunes Army was guided by their ace spinners Ajantha Mendis and Seekkuge Prasanna who turned the match in their team’s favour.

Seekkuge did the damage in Panadura SC’s first inning with a six wicket haul while Ajantha put the finishing touches when the home side was set with a target of 187 with a five wicket haul to bowl them out for 134.

Besides the two wins, double tons slammed by three of the top players in the domestic cricket arena were the highlights of the remaining second round matches.
