Four new ground records were broken, including two longstanding records, in the super charged Inter-House athletics meet of St. John’s College, Jaffna.

The two old records were in the 4 X 400m relay in the Under 19 category with Thompson House clocking 3m 55secs, breaking the 1984 record set by Thompson House of 3m 55.3sec, and the other was when R. Sam David of Thompson House shattered the 5000m mark in the Under 19 age group with a time of 18m 31.5sec, which was an improvement of the old record established by S. Sugumar, who held the record from 1988 with a time of 18m 41.3sec.

The other two were also in the track events for juniors. The first one was the record in the Under 17 400m event when M. Nilosan of Pargiter House set a new mark of 56.02sec, which was an improvement on his old record set last year. The final one was in the Under 15 category in the 100m hurdles with J. Goldshajan of Johnstone House creating a new mark of 18.0sec.

Peto House retained the house championship with a commanding score of 218 points followed by Johnstone House who recorded 199 points. The third to fifth slots were secured by Thompson (172), Pargiter (170) and Handy (99) points.

The Chief Guest was Venerable S. J. Jeyaveerasingam, Archdeacon of Jaffna.
