Bejewelled Batik

It's a gem studded saree, of hand painted batik. And one of a kind for designer Senaka de Silva who created the design for Unilever as the prize for their Purple Lotus Gem Saree promotion.

He commissioned veteran batik artist Eric Suriyasena to execute his design and the saree was completed at a cost of Rs. 500,000. The saree, of white silk with 396 semi-precious Sri Lankan gems- amethysts and citrines, is a first for the Sri Lankan fashion industry and textile design market, says its proud creator.
