S. Thomas’ batsman Javed Bongso shone in their drawn Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter at Darley Road yesterday. The second day’s play got underway only at 1.30 p.m. hampered by wet outfield due to the previous day’s rain.

Javed’s knock of 71 with four boundaries helped the Thomians, resuming from their overnight score of 52 for 4 and then were struggling later in the day on 130 for 7, by putting on a valuable 74 runs for the eighth wicket with Rishane Mathangaweera enabling his side make 234.

This was in reply to the home side’s score of 172. The match played for the Gilmour Jayasuriya Trophy saw the Josephians retain it on virtue of being the winners in 2009.
