70m heist: Whole gang arrested, HSBC staff not involved

The entire team of nine members of the gang involved in the robbery of about Rs 70 million being transported, to be placed inside ATM machines of HSBC banks in the Wattala area, have been taken into custody.

All the cash not disposed of by the robbers, has also been recovered, Police said. Meanwhile, HSBC said in an official statement, that no member of its staff has been arrested and/or implicated in this robbery, as confirmed by the Police and the CID.

The Bank also said that investigations into the incident are still ongoing, and that the Bank would fully cooperate in the proceedings, if the need arises.
