IP shot dead

A Police Inspector of the Kalawanchikudi station was shot dead allegedly by the LTTE at Sainthamarudhu last evening.

In another incident yesterday evening, a constable of the Eravur station was shot at Punnakuda and admitted to the crisis-ridden Batticaloa hospital.

Meanwhile, a soldier was killed in a shooting incident at the Seventh Milepost in Buttala-Kataragama last evening, reports said. But military spokesman Udaya Nanayakkara said there was only a shooting incident and no one was hurt.
