Spectrum Institute of Science and Technology expands educational services to provide international 4-year honours degrees to be completed in Sri Lanka

The SIST campus is now centrally placed at the heart of Colombo, increasing accessibility to students around Sri Lanka, located at a very convenient location opposite Savoy Cinema at No 05, Galle Road, Wellawatta, Colombo 06 and has the added advantage of four state of the art laboratories equipped to perform experimentation under molecular biology, chemistry, microbiology and chemical engineering technology.
SIST has traversed two decades of academic excellence since its inception, through which it has grown from strength to strength. A pioneer in life sciences in Sri Lanka, SIST was first established in 2001 by its founder Chairman Mr. Jayanthan Kulasingham with the aim of aspiring youth and to train young scientists in the fields of research and development, thereby enhancing human capital.
SIST offers prestigious globally recognised higher education opportunities in in life sciences, engineering technology and business, in collaboration with International Universities recognised by the University Grants Commission of Sri Lanka. Providing the opportunity for local students to complete truly international 4-year degree programmes in BSc (Hons) in Applied Microbiology & Biotechnology, Bachelor of Biomedical Sciences (Hons) and Bachelor of Chemical Engineering Technology (Hons) at an affordable fee structure. The institute also entered into a collaboration with ARA, Institute of Canterbury – New Zealand to offer Articulation Pathway Programme – Diploma in Applied Business Management. These programmes guarantee higher education pathways to UK, New Zealand and Malaysia. SIST is also the examination partner of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India in their online degree programme in Data Science.
SIST also conducts physical and virtual internship programmes in life sciences which includes Applications of Life Sciences in the areas of Environment, Food, Industry and Medicine with emphasis on research methods and scientific writing. Additionally, Certificate Programmes in Molecular Biology techniques and Microbiology techniques are provided by the institute.
SIST believes in providing students with the ultimate university experience. Thus, Spectrum Students’ Society operates under five main avenues; community service, green army, performing arts, sports, visual communication and digital media. The student magazine “The Spectrum” opens up opportunities for students to voice their opinions to the public.
The Research and Development Committee of SIST headed by Prof. Chandrani Wijeratne (former Head of Botany, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Sri Lanka) and Dr. Pathmasiri Ranasighe (former Director, Herbal Technology Section, Industrial Technology Institute, Sri Lanka) works with faculty and students in performing active research enabling students to gain hands on training in the respective areas of study.
