The Education Ministry is introducing an online education programme through the Ministry’s website, a senior Ministry official said recently. This programme will mainly focus on the Western Province, where the reopening of schools will be delayed due to the COVID situation.

The online programme would be similar to classes in schools, and separate online classes would be available for each subject, Education Ministry Secretary Kapila Perera said.

The online classes would be conducted for 30 minutes, similar to students following classes in school. The programmes would be conducted between 7.30 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. and intervals would be given in between the classes.  At the end of the lessons there would assessment programmes for the students.

The official said the Ministry would be launching the programmes shortly. Some of the classes would be conducted in a manner where students would be able to follow them under parental guidance.

However from grade one to four a different arrangement would be organised instead of online classes, the official added. In outstation and rural areas, school children of these grades would be brought in for classes in different groups.
