The Government is in the process of printing 39 million textbooks to be distributed free of charge next year.

This week, the Cabinet gave approval for Rs. 1,093.71 million to be allocated to the Govt. Printing Corporation, and another Rs. 2,059.01 million to selected private sector printing institutions. The Printing Corp.  will be printing 13,890,000 copies of the textbooks, while the private sector will be printing 25,541,500 copies. A total of 400 categories of school textbooks were required for school children next year, and 106 categories would be printed by the State and 294 copies would be printed by the private sector.
