The Institute of Western Music and Speech founded in 1960, celebrates its 60th anniversary this year with a sense of pride and joy, as it has grown in stature and established a reputation as the largest and most progressive local Examining Board in Sri Lanka conducting a record number of examinations island-wide in all grades, including Diploma.

In keeping with the objective of promoting, nurturing and developing the talents of the children of our country in the field of western music, the Beethoven Piano Competition – 2020 has been organised to commemorate the 250th birth anniversary of the great composer Ludwig van Beethoven. This competition is organised with the collaboration of Soul Sounds Academy headed by its dynamic leader Mrs. Soundarie David Rodrigo.

This competition is in two categories – Intermediate and Senior. The Semi-finals will be on the 19th of September and the finals will be held on the 10th of October; both of which will be judged by an esteemed panel of musicians.

There has been a positive response from young performers islandwide and the Institute appreciates the hardwork and dedication on the part of teachers who encourage and nurture the talents of their pupils.
